PIERRE MARAVAL | BIO

Born in the South of France, Pierre Maraval is an eclectic artist: painter, photographer, movie director and novelist. In 1976 he settled down in New York where he began to paint as a self-taught artist. He had his first solo show at the Atlantide Arts Gallery in New York (1982). During the eighties, his works were presented in many solo and group shows. In 1993 he started working on social networks: Mille femmes is a monumental exhibition gathering the photographic portraits of one thousand women linked to each other. Since then, similar exhibitions on different themes, were realized in Havana, Marseille, Montreal, Toronto, Paris…

Né dans le sud de la France, Pierre Maraval est un artiste éclectique : peintre, photographe, réalisateur de films, romancier. En 1976 il s’est installé à New York où il a commencé à peindre en autodidacte. Sa première exposition personnelle a été présentée à l’Atlantide Arts Gallery, (New York, 1982). Durant les années 80 il a fait de nombreuses expositions personnelles et collectives. En 1993, il a commencé à travailler sur des réseaux sociaux avec l’exposition Mille femmes réunissant les portraits photographiques de mille femmes qui se sont choisies les unes les autres. Des expositions similaires ont été réalisées depuis dans de grandes villes du monde : La Havane, Marseille, Montréal, Toronto, Paris…
